Eyeful Media Featured in Harvard Business Review with Advice for Young Leaders

Eyeful CEO Antonella Pisani published an article in the Harvard Business Review with advice for young leaders. In the piece, she described five areas leaders often struggle with and how to overcome them.

Antonella explored topics like ego management, delegation, management styles, delivering negative feedback, and how to talk with your team. Businesses hire new leaders all the time. However, those new leaders may not always receive the training they need to be successful.

Often, new leaders get derailed and deflated in the face of office politics and increased pressure. For emerging leaders to succeed, they need proper training and support. These new leaders must also learn the best practices summarized below and detailed in the HBR article. Visit the Harvard Business Review to learn more.

5 Tips for Leadership Success

No. 1 - Ego Management

Surround yourself with people who are more skilled than you in various ways. Your team members may be adept at SEO or analytics, have a natural charm with customers, or be gifted public speakers. Successful leaders don’t see these traits as threats but use them to their team’s advantage and learn from them.

No. 2 - Delegation

A vital trait of a good leader is knowing when to delegate. But you also need to understand how to guide your team if they need to complete a project in a certain way. Effective communication is crucial; open conversation about the project can ensure it starts and ends successfully.

No. 3 - Identifying Management Styles

Knowing how your team members best communicate and receive information is crucial. Do they prefer you get to the point using short bulleted information? Do they need to have their point of view acknowledged? What motivates them?”

No. 4 - Delivering Negative Feedback

You’re not being “mean” or “hurtful”  but instead are providing valuable feedback to a team member. Assume positive intent about your team members and give them feedback to help them perform their job better. Offer constructive feedback rather than criticizing how they do a task, and offer suggestions to solve any problems you see.

No. 5 - How to Talk with Your Team

If you have complaints, bring them to your bosses along with solutions. Your team will follow your lead because how you react will set the stage for what is acceptable. Remember, it’s important to distinguish between work relationships and friendships. Your direct reports aren’t your friends. Keeping this in mind can help you avoid drama traps.
